Email Tips: This Generation Shall Not Pass

This "tip" was originally delivered on Saturday, September 6th, 2025 .

In Matthew 24 Jesus describes what will happen in the end of the world. Then he says:

“Verily I say unto you, This generation shall not pass, till all these things be fulfilled.” – Mathew 24:34

More than a few people have noticed that the generation alive when Jesus declared this truth are all passed away and dead (Jesus excepted).

It has been nearly 2000 years since Jesus made this statement, making the explanation of this passage a mystery.

Does this mean that the prophetic weeks of Daniel, the abomination of desolation (Matt 24:15), and the great tribulation (Matt 24:21) have long been fulfilled? Perhaps in 70 AD with the destruction of Jerusalem?

It doesn’t. But why not?

While much attention surrounds the phrase “this generation”, what is more helpful in discerning the times is knowing what happens within the generation, namely, “all these things be fulfilled.”

The “all things” includes every eye seeing Jesus return in the clouds of heaven with his angels to gather his elect (Matt 24:30-31). In other words, for “all these things” to be fulfilled, Jesus needs to come back.

Moreover, the passage tells us the time of Christ’s return in relation to those other events. It says Jesus comes “Immediately after the tribulation of those days… “ (Matt 24:29). Since Jesus did not return in the first century, then nothing that immediately precedes his return was fulfilled.

What Jesus said about the end of the world has certainly not all been fulfilled. He has not returned.

Jesus said he would return in “this generation” that would see the fulfillment of all these things. We are still waiting for “this generation” to see all things be fulfilled (Matt 24:33).

Anyone who teaches that Jesus has already returned does not take the Bible literally. Let God be true.

Verily, all those things shall be fulfilled. But after Matthew 24, the Lord revealed a mystery from heaven hidden from all ages and generations (Col 1:26-27). The prophecies are not yet fulfilled, because the mystery was revealed.

Our ministry is not counting fig leaves nor making men see what was foretold to previous generations. Till he come, the Lord instructs the church to make all men see what is the fellowship of this mystery now revealed to all generations (Eph 3:1-9).
